The mission of the Brawley Planning and Zoning Department is:

Planning is a process to formulate future plans and ordinances, ensuring full public participation, and providing the Planning Commission and the City Council with the necessary information to make intelligent and informed decisions. Through the California Constitution, the State has delegated the responsibility of implementing local policies and development to each City through the City General Plan.

Some of the specific functions of the Planning Department are to revise the General Plan, review of specific plans, amend the General Plan, keep the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances current, handle Conditional Use Permits, Specific Plans, Zone Changes, Variances, Major/Minor Subdivisions (Tract Maps/Parcel Maps), Site Plans, Adjustment Plats (Lot Line Adjustments, Lot Mergers) and Certificates of Compliance. The Planning Department also works with other city departments to provide administrative and technical assistance with their projects.  The Planning Department is also a key point of contact for Economic Development activities.

The Planning and Zoning Department is located at 205 S. Imperial Ave. 

Hours of operation are: 
Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM  
Closed: noon to 1:00 PM
Hours may vary depending on staffing. Appointments may be made by phone or email.

Climate Action Plan

The City of Brawley has recently accepted the Draft Climate Action Plan and Associated Draft General Plan amendments which were provided by a grant from the "Strategic Growth Council's Sustainable Communities Planning Grant and Incentives Program". The document currently is out for public review and will be presented in a Public Hearing before the Brawley City Council on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 6:00 P.M.. The Planning Division will accept comments Starting at 8 A.M.  Thursday, October 10, 3019 until 5 P.M. Friday, November 8, 2019. All interested persons and concerned parties are encouraged to attend the hearings. Persons unable to attend may submit written comments to the Planning Department, City of Brawley, 205 South Imperial Avenue, Brawley, California 92227. Copies of the proposed mitigated negative declaration and all project documents referenced in the negative declaration are available for public review at the Planning Department between the hours of 8 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 5 PM Monday through Friday or by clicking the link below. Planning Commission
