When to Call 9-1-1
The Brawley Fire Department respond to thousands of calls for assistance each year. Here are a few tips that can help the fire department help you during an emergency.
Call 9-1-1 to Report:
- A fire
- A serious medical condition
- A serious crime
- Any incident that may require an immediate response from the fire or police department
What you will need to provide:
- The address or location of the emergency
- The nature of the emergency
- Any other information that you can provide to the 9-1-1 operator
When talking to the 9-1-1 operator, stay calm, speak clearly, answer questions that may be useful, receive instructions and stay on the telephone until you are told to hang up.
Arriving emergency vehicles:
- Have someone wait near the street to direct fire or police personnel to the emergency.
- Only when it is safe!, stay at the scene to provide fire or police personnel with information.
- If you are asked to move or leave the area, do it safely so fire and police personnel can perform their jobs in a safe manner.
Other tips:
- Make sure your address is visible from the street.
- Make sure your address is well light at night.
- Keep hydrants near your home clear of weeds, debris, and parked cars.
- Never paint hydrants in your area with various colors. The fire department rely on the standard "yellow" color for easily identification.
If you are not sure if you should call 9-1-1. Call anyways.
