Heat Safety
  • Drink plenty of water - avoid alcohol or caffeinated drinks

Your body needs water to stay hydrated and cool. Do not wait until you feel thirsty to drink fluids. When traveling across the desert, have at least three gallons of water per person.

  • Wear lightweight and light colored clothing to reflect heat and the sunlight.
  • Reschedule activities until the coolest time of the day.
  • During the hotest time of day, stay in an air-conditioned place
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle- even if the windows are down.
  • Always make sure all children have exited the car when you reach your destination.
